With over 62,000 volunteer hours contributed by more than 550 dedicated individuals, our volunteers bring joy to the community in so many ways. Whether they’re operating the ride, serving in the café, painting, carving, assisting in the gift shop, greeting guests, or helping behind the scenes, every role makes a difference.

To keep the carousel running smoothly, we rely on 60 to 80 volunteers each week. Every shift filled helps us continue providing a magical experience for our guests!

Artisans

Help with hand-carving restoration projects or new carousel animal creations.

Carvers & Painters

Age Requirement: 14+

Take your first step into tradition. We invite you to try your hand at carving or painting in our dedicated studio. No prior experience is needed—our master artisans will guide you through every cut and brushstroke as you help create new carousel magic.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with sanding and prepping woodwork.
  • Learn hand-carving techniques with master carvers.
  • Assist with the application of base coats and detail painting.
  • Support the preservation of existing carousel figures.

This rewarding role offers volunteers a chance to learn a time-honored skill while directly contributing to the preservation and growth of our carousel’s historic collection.

Carousel Operations

Operate our historic machinery and ensure every rider has a safe, magical experience.

Operator Assistant Volunteer

Age Requirement: 16+

Help our lead operators manage the queue and ensure safe loading of the carousel.

Responsibilities
  • Check height requirements.
  • Assist riders onto animals.
  • Monitor safety gates.
Training
  • Safety protocol induction.
  • Customer service training.
  • 2 hours on-site shadowing.
Operator Volunteer

Age Requirement: 18+

Take the reins of our historic machine, managing the mechanical operation and music.

Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-flight safety checks.
  • Engage the motor and clutch.
  • Manage show music levels.
Training
  • Mechanical operation certification.
  • Emergency procedures training.
  • 40 hours supervised operation.

Point of Sales

Assist visitors with tickets and tokens using our museum's point of sales system.

Café Volunteer

Age Requirement 16+ | Full training provided. Valid Food Handlers card required.

  • Prepare espresso and light snacks.
  • Maintain museum hygiene standards.
  • Provide friendly guest service.
Gift Shop Volunteer

Age Requirement 14+ | Friendly demeanor required. Full tasks training provided.

  • Greet visitors and assist with gift selections.
  • Restock displays and organize merchandise.
  • Assist with simple shop inventory curation.

Volunteer Assistance

Support our volunteer coordinator with daily logistics for our 550+ team members.

Event Volunteer

Age Requirement: 16+ | Assist with our special events throughout the year.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and tear down event spaces.
  • Assist with admission and guest directions.
  • Support activity stations and workshops.
Work Parties

Age Requirement: 16+ | Join our occasional maintenance work parties that help maintain the Carousel.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with dusting and polishing.
  • Support light maintenance of the museum space.
  • Help with seasonal decorating.
Party Assistant

Age Requirement: 16+ | Assist with private events like meetings, weddings, and parties.

Responsibilities
  • Help families with setup and cleanup.
  • Manage the flow of guests during the party.

This role offers flexible hours and a chance to make occasions unforgettable.

Guest Assistance

Greet museum guests and share stories about our historic carousel collection.

Float

Age Requirement: 14+

Support museum staff across all departments by filling in where needed most during peak hours.

Responsibilities
  • Fill in for breaks.
  • Help with line management and crowd flow.
Training
  • General orientation.
  • Customer service and safety basics.
Greeter Volunteer

Age Requirement: 14+

Welcome guests at the front door with a warm smile and help them start their museum journey.

Responsibilities
  • Greet guests.
  • Explain carousel history and museum layout.
Training
  • Staff and volunteer introduction walk.
Tour Guide Volunteer

Age Requirement: 16+

Provide expert storytelling and detailed insights into our unique carving and restoration processes.

  • Lead scheduled group tours through the carving studio.

Training
  • 10 hours of shadowing and mentorship.
