Carousel Rules

Help Us Care for Our Historic Carousel

Our carousel is for everyone to enjoy. To preserve its century-old craftsmanship, we kindly ask guests to observe a 300 lb weight limit for the inner-row animals (the ones that move up and down).

If you exceed this limit, no worries at all. Our stationary outer-row animals and accessible chariots offer a wonderful way to experience the magic of the ride.

We understand this can be a sensitive topic, and we truly appreciate your kindness, understanding, and support in helping us keep this extraordinary piece of history spinning for many years to come.

Safety Guidelines

On the Ride

  • Sit facing forward and hold the pole with at least one hand.
  • Keep at least one foot in the stirrup.
  • Ride astride the animal (no side-saddle).

Service Animals

  • Service animals are allowed in chariots next to their person.
  • Staff may ask if your animal is a service animal.

Welcome! We're so glad you're here. To keep everyone safe and smiling, please take a moment to review the following carousel rules before you ride.

Rider Requirements

  • Riders must be 42 inches tall to ride alone.
  • Riders under 42 inches must be supervised by someone 14 years or older.
  • Supervising riders may stand next to the child's animal and offer support, or ride an animal while holding a small child in their lap.

Not Allowed

  • No horseplay, bare feet, wet clothing, food, or drinks on the carousel.
  • No sitting or standing on the edge platforms.

The Ring Game

Who Can Play

  • Riders must be at least 42 inches tall and able to reach the rings.
  • Adults supervising children may not participate.
  • Riders in chariots are not eligible to play.

Try your luck in our classic Ring Game, a guest favorite. Riders grab a ring as they pass. The brass ring wins a free ride.

Brass Rings and Plastic Rings

  • One brass ring is hidden among the plastic ones. Grab it and win a free ride.
  • If a child can't reach a ring, an attendant may hand them a plastic ring only, never a brass one.
  • Brass rings must be earned by grabbing them from the ring game mechanism.
  • Rings should only be given to riders, not to anyone else in the building.
