The Carousel is for Everyone
The Albany Historic Carousel & Museum is proud to hold the Accessibility Verified Status from Wheel the World. Our mission is to ensure that every guest, regardless of ability, can experience the joy and wonder of our hand-carved menagerie. We are deeply committed to welcoming all visitors with warmth and providing the necessary accommodations to make the carousel’s magic accessible to all.
Physical Accessibility
Accessible Entrances
Experience ease of entry with level thresholds and power-assisted doors throughout our museum, ensuring a welcoming arrival for every visitor regardless of mobility needs.
Accessible Rides
The magic is for everyone. Our historic carousel includes specialized ADA chariots and transfer assistance so guests of all physical abilities can enjoy the music and motion.
Elevator Access
A modern elevator provides seamless access between the museum gallery, our hand-carving studio, the main carousel floor, and second-floor community event spaces.
Water Fountains
Accessible drinking stations are conveniently located throughout the facility, strategically positioned at heights that are easy to reach for all our guests.
Communication & Sensory Accessibility
Electronic Translator Services
We offer electronic translator services to ensure clear and welcoming communication with all our guests, regardless of language.
Sensory-Friendly Wednesday Mornings
Every Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, we host sensory-friendly sessions with reduced noise and gentle lighting for a calm experience.
To provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for individuals with sensory sensitivities and their families, we also slow the carousel down to a jog and turn down the music. Join us for a sensory-friendly ride!
Color-Corrective Support
Experience the magic in full color. We provide EnChroma color-corrective glasses for guests with color vision deficiency to enjoy our artisanal carousel.
Digital & Information Accessibility
We are actively enhancing our digital presence to meet the needs of all guests. Our ongoing commitment includes optimizing our website for screen readers and audio text readers, ensuring that the magic of the carousel is accessible to everyone online.
The Carousel is for Everyone: Our Wheel the World Partnership
